About The Ocean's Cry
Set amidst an increasingly urgent environmental crisis, The Ocean’s Cry was conceived as an interdisciplinary means of introducing people, particularly young audiences, to subjects in ocean conservation. In collaboration with the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center and Peabody musicians: percussionist Ben Giroux, saxophonist Robert Brown, and pianist Sherry Du, The Ocean’s Cry will examine five issues confronting our seas today: 1) harmful algal blooms, 2) the loss of coral reefs, 3) marine biodiversity, 4) shark conservation, and 5) rising ocean temperatures. Consonance members each composed a piece based on one of these topics, portraying the vulnerable beauty of marine ecosystems through harmonious grandeur and portentous dissonances.
